Something New

Go-Nyok is actually a sauce eating with raw, shredded vegetables and fruits like cabbage, salad, young papaya. It is made from fish. Here at home we eat it with keropok. It's sour-ish and a lil spicy.

Looks delicious? Wanna know how to do it? Continue reading...

Ingredients:
  • 250 g steamed fish (deboned)
  • 150 g of 'gula melaka'
  • 2 bulb shallot
  • 910 mL of hot water
  • 1/2 cup of vinegar
  • Salt & sugar to taste
  • 1 tbsp chili paste

Method:

1. Steamed the fish and take only the meat part.

2. Mix in steamed fish, shallots and the 'gula melaka' in the pot.

3. Add in 450 mL of hot water first.
4. Chili paste or 'lada giling' is added.
5. Add in vinegar and keep stirring.
6. Sugar and salt is added to taste.
7. Add the remaining 460 mL of hot water.
8. Cook for 15 minutes and the Go-Nyok sauce is ready to serve.

Extra note:
  1. The fish used is 'lolong putih'. I'm bad at describing the fish appearance, in case you don't know, please check the entry Sept Ember for clear view of the fish. As the matter of fact, I think any fish will do. We're using this fish because it's the cheapest available.
  2. You must use HOT water. Cold water is a no-no. Popo said that hot water can clear the fishy smell of the fish.
So, good luck! And Go-Nyok is best serve during tea-time with family and friends! =D
